Velshi’s Step-By-Step Guide To Joining NATO

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cited Ukraine’s pursuit of NATO membership as a justification for this unprovoked war. Ukraine is not and has never been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO has an “open door policy”. But getting through that door can take several years in some cases. There are several steps and certain requirements a country must meet in order to join the alliance. Here’s a step-by-step guide to securing a NATO membership.

  • Didn't france leave NATO and then rejoined?

  • What if Putin wants to join NATO?

  • Countries join NATO because they're worried about Russia invading them. So Putin's idea to prevent that is to invade a non NATO country?

  • Great job Velshi !

  • All these years after ww2, the u.s and nato can still invade and bomb whoever they choose without repercussions. They killed millions and millions of civilians in europe, Mid East and the nato members pet each other’s on the back and celebrate their so called victory.

  • With how we of the West have dragged our feet on helping Ukraine, I would understand if Ukraine wants as little to do with us as possible after this is all over.

I personally wish otherwise, but what comfort is that to the families of civilians killed because we twiddled our thumbs when they needed jets and long range missiles?

  • Just let us have our Ottoman Empire back.
    We will handle Ruski.

    Remove Vodka!

  • 1st world NATO.
    2nd world Warsaw Pact.
    3rd world Others.

  • Turk here.
We are champions of the 2nd criteria.

  • I STAND WITH PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN.

  • Trump will save the Constitutional Republic of America … gas will be 1 dollar a gallon …MSMBC will be toast … Green energy is as stupid as Biden voters…

  • I THINK PUTIN IS CONFIDENT TO SPREAD WAR INTO NATO TERRITORIES, WHY? BECAUSE ONLY THE U.S. COUNTRY PLAYS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO NATO, OTHER NATO MEMBERS HAS AGING MILITARY ASSETS LIKE GERMANY. ONLY 3 OR 4 ASIDE FROM THE U.S. HAS UPDATED OR MODERN MILITARY CAPABILITIES. RUSSIA KNOWS IF HE PUSH WW3 CHINA IS THERE TO HELP WHEN IT COMES TO NUCLEAR WAR.

  • The US literally only meets 2/5of their own “NATO Membership Criteria” 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄

  • Putin – joined to NATO and no problem! 😀

  • Every country should have the option to nuke Moscow if needed, for security's sake

  • Conservative Region Of Carthage; Dewd, It is hella on the Society

  • It has been reported elsewhere that the very long admission processes to EU and NATO fits into Russian Land Grab Expansion pattern. This pattern can be followed in how Putin has conducted his Military Operations the last 20 years. This is nuts!!!! NATO and the EU could have put a stop to Putin much ealier!!!!

  • In the 90’s, when Ukraine declared independence, wasn’t it considered as a neutral state in the Budapest agreement of 1994 when it gave up most of it’s nuclear and conventional weapons to Russia? Weren’t it's neutrality and the integrity of it’s borders supposed to be guaranteed then by Russia, USA and the UK (by forbidding use of force from these countries) ? What happened to this so called guarantee by these three nuclear powers? Just asking.

In 2014, Ukraine wanted to join EU, not NATO, and could have had the same status as Austria or Sweden, who are not NATO countries. Unfortunately the Russian 2014 annexation of Crimea sparked this wish for NATO membership.

Reference Wikipedia : The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances comprises three identical political agreements signed at the OSCE conference in Budapest, Hungary, on 5 December 1994, to provide security assurances by its signatories relating to the accession of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The memorandum was originally signed by three nuclear powers: the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. China and France gave somewhat weaker individual assurances in separate documents.

The memorandum prohibited the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.

  • We were warned against and there is a school of thought that says if we would have simply helped Russia more with its' painful transition to democracy and market capitalism after the soviet union breakup instead of gloating, doubling down on military build up to support our military industrial complex, and pushing NATO eastward, Putin and his authoritarianism would have never happened which has resulted in the problems we see for Ukraine today. I know hind sight is 20/20, but I visited St Petersburg shortly after the breakup as an merchant marine engineer on a food aid shipment (wheat of all things) and the people I met were welcoming, curious about the outside world and hopeful for their future.

  • – Complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine, including Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk – –

    – Russia must acknowledge Ukraine's right to her own foreign policy, including regarding the EU and NATO

    – payment of a war indemnity to repair damages caused by the invasion. This payment may be indirect through oil & gas sales

  • Unmentioned is that prospective members must resolve outstanding territorial disputes.

  • Like Estonia didn't have the same corruption? How much did Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia each add militarily, compared to what Ukraine offers? I smell a double standard!

  • Putin made the excuse about Ukraine joining to further his goals the fact NATO has atleast 2 other countries on russias border says he planned the attack and made that excuse to start the war

  • So NATO accepts only countries that do NOT need NATO's help, that is ridiculous, the reality is that NATO don't want to protect a country that is in real danger to be conquered by Russia, Ukraine its too close to the real enemy, wake up NATO its time to react.

  • NATO screwed Ukraine 🇺🇦…..Stalling Them For YEAR'S & YEARS….NATO IS NOTHING BUT COWARDS SCARED OF A RUSSIAN CONSCRIPT ARMY WHO RUNS AWAY…..🤣😅😂

  • Besides Ukraine, 'Something called the Budapest Memorandum' provides security guarantees to Belarus and Kazakhstan, both also given up their nuclear arsenal.
One of the articles forbids the use of economic pressure to influence their internal politics.
This one principle was violated so many times in regards to these three countries that the document itself is not worth the paper it was written on.

  • Looking good Rachel , i like the baseball cap

  • America was almost out of NATO due to Trump and the fascist MAGA cult.
That, of course, because MAGA cult is a Russian puppet organization.
