Tricked Out Bandsaws with Carter Guides
The bandsaw is one of my favorite tools and if you treat it well, it will quickly become one of your favorites as well. While most modern bandsaws come with decent components, to begin with, there are companies like Carter Products who make high-quality after-market add-ons that can make your bandsaw better performing and easier to adjust. One of the best upgrades you can do is replacing the guide system. Alex Snodgrass from Carter Products came out to my shop and helped me install new guides on both my Powermatic PM1500 Bandsaw and my Powermatic 14″ Bandsaw. He also included their unique Blade Stabilizer for cutting tight curves with small blades.
So I hope you enjoy seeing the upgrade process and don’t forget to check out the Bandsaw Setup Video I referenced in the video.

Why do guys make such ridiculously embarrassing thumbnails. Remember about telling a book by it’s cover. Your material looks foolish, and unprofessional at first glance.
Alex snodgrass is so awsome thanks for the post
JUST TO BAD < THEY DO NOT SHIP TO Canada 🇨🇦
CAN YOU PUT THIS UP GRADE KIT FOR A PORTE CABLE SAW???
Question for those in the know.
When putting a 3/4" blade on the same 14" Powermatic how is it possible to center gullets on top wheel when the standard thrust bearings wont adjust back far enough?
Thanks guys. I watched Alex's video and reset my Laguna 14" and for the first time in a long long time there was no drift! I wish I could afford the Carter bearings. Keep up the great info.
Which carter guide replacement fits the PM1500? I didn't see one on their website & I like the carter barrel-nut design vs the standard PM guide on that saw.
I look into to the Carter guide kit for my 14" bandsaw and after considering the price I decided instead order a brand new seal bearings and blade and fallow Alex tips about the correct way to set up you machine and put my saw to the test and the results were remarkable so I will stay with the original blade guide and just invest on new well sharp blades is much chipre and the results are the same .
what's that goofy look on your face….. constipation?
Do you know if this kit works on the powermatic model #pwbs-14" all I see is for powermatic 14" CS 141-143 .
Mark how do I contact Alex snodges?
Not all bandsaws are made like yours , so you aren't helping me at all
Exactly what I needed. My bandsaw needs a new life!!
I have a Sceppach Basa 1 Bandsaw. Is it worth getting a Carter stabiliser for it?
Awesome video thanks for the information. I had a chance to meet Alex at the Chantilly Virginia woodworking show. I have a video of him on my channel doing a demonstration of a bandsaw box and cutting out a reindeer. Amazing how quickly he works.
I have a 14 inch delta and tried everything on utube to get a straight cut and no good, had the drift going on so bad I was going to sell it and then I met Alex at a wood show and watched his work and had a long talk with him, he set me up with the guide kit and showed me what to do and man I can cut paper thin sheets of any kind of wood, I was so excited I went back to the show the next day to shake his hand and picked up the guide for tight tunes and it works great, it’s like having a new saw, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t buy this it is like magic, I’m using my bad saw more than my table saw, it’s unbelievable
OUTSTANDING!
I've got a Laguna 16, (Meber 400) , spent the big bucks on the Carter guides, ( which have cam type side rollers) what a project , are you serious? 5 different size hex keys to adjust them ! Their showman Alex suggests removing the table to make it easier, maybe, but not easy to reinstall it. After an hr and a half I'm ready to cut some wood, just hoping I don't have to switch to a different width blade and have to start over
Excellent video Thanks a lot but I have a question I'm interesting to cut a balsa tree to a thickness of 1.5 mm (size 100 * 100 mm) What kind of saw I need to get a smooth slice
my band saw is making wavey lines into the wood. the cut isnt smooth at all. What can be the problem??
Will those work with a skil band saw that’s all I have
do you have any brands of blades you prefer? and what size blade is he using to cut that awesome reindeer?
How much do you make compared to what you are given?
well merry friggin Christmas!
is the bottom guides still set to. how u would normally set it , for a smaller size of blade? or was it removed like the top
my rikon bandsaw , has the same operating system i see no difference to mine or this one , besides maybe higher rpm bearings . i like this guy , watched his vids on how to put the bandsaw blade right in the middle or the tire the gullet that is ! . have u had many nbandsaw blades break at the weld mark? just wondering if its just a shit blade or maybe its too tight?
Alex Snodgrass has a very compelling way of explaining things that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. The "align the gullet with the top of the wheel" bit made me roll my eyes.
I inherited an old reliant (junk brand I know) and seldom used it because of drift and vibration. I put carter guides and tires dust brush on it, and it cuts like a champ. There is no drift or vibration any more. It was worth every penny.
TOTAL DORK
That deer at the end was pretty slick.
With the different Bearings, are the saws less loud?
Great video! I'd love to get the pattern for that reindeer. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Does he have it online somewhere?
Thanks! Gary
Please do another shop tour.
Thank you.
That thumbnail is only possible when you already got 400k subs
Whoa … what's with the psycho eyes?
I don't know why I'm watching this, I don't even own a Bandsaw!!!!!
My mouth is agape at him cutting out that reindeer! Wow! Good video.
Hello I would like to see if you can build a trabador for the band saw blades so I would get my teeth folded perfect porfa .. hehehe I liked your video … greets you Argentina.
