A very fun medium range caster that melts early bosses, pardon my pun. It's pretty easy to set up too since the Ash of War isn't too hard to get and farming the spear is fairly easy at low levels with sorceries. The only thing you'll need to really work for is the Carian Knight gear

Hey,
I tested your build, and you have a big mistake in it. Ice Spear doesn't scale with strength. It scales in first places with weapon level, than dexterity and last with intelligence. If you want the highest dmg you need keen as upgrade and the scholar armament as weapon enchant with your staff in the off hand. If you go the cold upgrade, everything is in the guiide is correct, but if you want crazy dmg you must put points in dexterity.
I use too spears with ice spear and thunderbold. i have only 20 int for the buffs and 25 faith for the faith buffs. I spent the rest of the points in dexterity and i have too crazy casts and i'm super tanky.
Ive been grinding forever for the claymans harpoon. It will not drop at all. Must have a very low drop rate.

There isn't a cold resistance, isn't cold just magic damage. I know frost is a static effect that does have a defensive counter. But isn't it just magic damage?
So, I'm respeccing into this at level 50, after going heavy spear/shield for all of it up to this point.

Dude! I took something from this build. Frost spear on a twin blade and a second twin blade both set to frost. With a couple frost spells. Dual twin gets frost in like a jump attack or two. Nasty. Thanks for the idea!!
Something good to know, adding affinities to your ashes of war when you place them on your weapons changes the stat scaling and damage stats for the weapon. Basically any weapon that can receive ashes of war can be made to scale with int and do magic damage by putting either magic or cold affinity (cold affinity will also add frostbite buildup) on it. Greatly increases the amount of melee weapons at your disposal. You will need to find the specific whet knives for each affinity type to do this, frost and cold are given by the glintstone whetknife
A fun tip for shielded enemies is with the glint blades delay your can cast it and the run around/behind the enemy who will stay facing you and get hit in the back. Really nice starting tip for prisoners too

If you find the cold enchantment not going enough damage with your normal attack (or the status effect isn't helping), go for standard and apply scholar armament on it. With standard my ice spear still does 1000+ damage, which through testing does the most dmg out of all enchants.

Can someone please explain to me how he uses the Frost Spear instead of the ash that is equiped on the shield? I did the build like him but when i press the buttom to use the skill it triggers the shield skill. Or he is actually two handing the spear every time he uses the frost spear?
Damn, pretty much my own build, I use Ice spear with Banished Knight Halberd (got it from phantom upgraded to +8 and used it ever since, +14 right now – tried to replace it but moveset is just too good with reach thrust, jumping slashes and great poise damage). STR/INT Frost Maiden as I called it, rarely using Moon Ore Blade as back up weapon.
Ash of War Hoarfrost stomp can be equipped with that spear?

Unfortunately, i have the spear at +18 and its pretty awful damage wise.
This build has me in a solo stalemate with Rennala Rn. Was decent against everything else.
