Finally – a discussion about hypotension. I fight this every day, it makes me dizzy and I often faint (resulting in numerous broken bones). Thank you!
Hi. Was hoping if you could advice me real quick. In my report it says I have vagus nerve palsy after neck surgery. This caused troubles with my swallowing. Another problem it caused was my heart rate going out of control for a few minutes a day which has nos improved and not happened for some time. At the moment the only problem left that still is there is low blood pressure. My heart is fine I was told. However they gave me blood thinners for the rest of my life. Is there anything I can do to improve the vagus nerve? I'm sure it healed to some extent because the heart rate problem is now basically gone. Swallow is much better but still unsafe

This was a very good, no great simple explanation of blood pressure. I have been tracking on a spreadsheet for over two years daily morning pressures. I use two meters as one seemed to be off compared to my doctor's office testing. I have since learned that how the cuff is put on the arm makes a big difference. I find a looser cuff provides more consistent readings. I suspect it is due to the microphone listening for the thumps etc. I added pulse pressure after reading an article on the Mayo Clinic's website. I had a test that referred to the Mean Arterial Pressure but had no clue what it meant. I do now and have added the calculation. Perhaps, my doctor on his computer screen sees these numbers. I don't know. Thanks to Professor Zach Murphy, I can ask questions that can give me a better understanding of my blood pressure and arterial conditions.
Amazing lectures, certainly puts a fun aspect on medicine! Got me through medical school and I'm still using them highly recommend🙂!
Keep up the good work.
